I joined Franklin Pierce “College” September 2006. I chose Mass Communication Media Production as my Major. I joined FPTV my first Semester as just a helping hand doing whatever was asked of me, camera, audio, etc…. After my first semester I got asked if I wanted to be an Exec Producer for F&E, and I was given the show THE BOOT to produce and even started directing shows. For my sophomore year I applied for the position of Programming Director as well as continued being the Exec Producer for THE BOOT. Jr. Year I once again was the programming Director and continued to be involved with FPTV. Sr. year I became the Station Manager for FPTV and returned to producing on a MMA Show called IN THE CLINCH.

I graduated from Franklin Pierce University May 2010. After a month of being home I moved to Fort Mill, SC applying for a position called Master Control Operator at Inspiration Network (a company I interned for after my Jr. Year.) I got the job and stated work August 2010 three months after graduating. I’m continuing my job at Inspiration Ministries, as well as I’ve been AD for a web show the company puts on weekly, as well as running camera with a friend at local MMA Shows doing pre and post-fight interviews.

FPTV played a huge factor in why I am where I am today. Getting involved was the best thing I did at FP. The experience and hands on learning was better than any class I could have taken (no offense to the Mass Comm Professors.) if I could give advice to anyone who is thinking of being involved on FPTV all I can say is do it. Get involved and learn for yourself and from your peers.

The results are in from the campus wide vote for the April movies of the month. The three movies that have been selected are The Rum Diary, J. Edgar, and Tower Heist.

Overall, 148 students came out to vote in the glass foyer last Wednesday. The Rum Diary (73 votes) won by a landslide, followed by Tower Heist (41) and J. Edgar (36).

Other movies in contention were The Immortals (35 votes), Hugo (33), Tinker Tailor Solider Spy (29), Jack and Jill (28) and Hop (12).

The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp, is about an American journalist that is tired of New York and decides to leave the country for Puerto Rico. The film made only $24 million on the box office.

The next movie is J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and is directed by Clint Eastwood. The movie takes a look back at the career of J. Edgar Hoover in the FBI. The movie made $79 million in the box office.

Tower Heist is a comedy starring Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, and Casey Affleck. In total, the movie $152 million in the box office.

FPTV will be going back to the glass foyer to have the campus vote for the May Movie of the Month. The time of this vote will be announced within the next few weeks.

On Wednesday, March 13th, FPTV will be in the glass foyer from 11a.m. to 2p.m. so students can vote for April’s Movies of the Month.

Hugo won five Academy Awards in 2012

The top three movies will be selected to start playing April 1st and will play in a rotation.

As a part of the agreement through Student Government Association (SGA), the campus is allowed to submit votes and pick which movies the would like to see on channel 25.

Starting March 8th, FPTV will be accepting applications for the 2012-13 executive board. Applications are available on the FPTV office door and must be dropped off in the same area by 1pm on March 16th.

Anyone who has helped out with FPTV this year is eligible. The application has a description of each available position. There are six open positions for next year including:

Joining the FPTV executive board is a great way to increase your role at the station and also improves any resume. FPTV is looking for executive board members who are enthusiastic and who can work well with others.

Each application submitted should include a cover letter, resume, and the competed application. Interviews will be held Wednesday, March 28th with times TBA.

The FPTV office is located on the third floor of the Fitzwater Center (next to the radio station). All questions should be directed to next year’s Station Manager, Samantha Deabay.

FPTV is proud to announce that they have reached a contract agreement with ResLife Cinema! FPTV was able to receive the remaining funding from the Student Government Association (SGA) after a long process. In return, FPTV has told SGA that students on campus will have a chance to vote for one of the movies each month. Because there weren’t any movies the past two months, FPTV will be able to get 2-3 movies a month.

FPTV’s movies of the month for March are Moneyball and Space Jam. This is the first time all academic year that FPTV has ordered an older movie.

Moneyball is a 2011 Academy Award nominated film starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The film takes an inside look of the Oakland Athletics’ franchise and how General Manager Billy Beane was able to assemble a team with limited money.

Space Jam is an old favorite of the FPTV staff and was ordered in honor of March Madness. This 1996 smash hit is about Michael Jordan and his quest to help save the Looney Tunes. Jordan has to come back to the sport of basketball in order to defeat the Monstars, a group of aliens that stole talent from NBA players. The movie opened as the number one film in the country and made over $230 million.

Although the new schedule has not been updated, the movies will air every other day on FPTV at noon, 9pm, midnight, and 3am. Check out FPTV in the next few weeks to see what movies will be airing on FPTV this April.

They need your help

The critically acclaimed Bobby & Bobby skit aired on Raven Made last semester. It was immediately picked up for it’s first season on FPTV-25. The co-creators, Bobby Driscoll and Bobby Valente, are looking for a skilled camera person to document their greatness.

The qualifications are simple, those applying must

• Have knowledge of the Sony NXCAM,
• Basic knowledge of camera framing (ex. rule of thirds)
• Must know how to swim, just in case
• Should not be afraid of cotton candy or wall insulation

No dress code required. No bathing suits allowed. Unless swimming, in which case a bathing suit is a must.

With the recent departure of James Connelly as the host of Roommates, auditions will be held this Tuesday (February 14 @5pm) in the TV studio to find his replacement for the longest running show in FPTV history. Anyone is welcomed to audition. Those who want to try out must bring a list of questions that you would use in an episode, some new ideas you have for the show, and an exciting presence.

For years, Roommates has thrived off the energy of it’s host. Teams that have been on the show feel more comfortable with a confident host. The person who is selected will have all of these qualities. Among the people watching the auditions will be former host James Connelly and Associate Producer Bobby Driscoll.

“I am honestly hoping a girl comes out and blows my mind, but whoever has the best audition will get the role,” said Connelly.

The show has not had a female host since a failed pilot in 2009, the episode before Connelly began is dominating run. Connelly also stressed that this competition is open to everyone and there will be no advantages for anyone.

FPTV Commercials will be filming at the DiPietro Library on February 9th at 7:30pm next week. We need 5-8 freshmen/sophomores to reenact a tour with one of the tour guides on campus. You will be on camera for 10seconds and have no lines (improve is acceptable if you’d like). We do however still need a main character to ask the library attendant 2 questions before running down the isles of the bookstore with a shopping cart and grabbing everything off the shelves (this is a dream sequence). Hello all!
I’m Jen Connors and I am the Executive Producer of Sports for FPTV. Currently we have four sports shows on the air: Ground Pound, our football show, which is obviously coming to a close for the season as the Superbowl is on Sunday; Raven Sports Recap, focusing on the Ravens and all of our sports teams; Pierce Portal, which focuses on intramural sports on campus; and Beantown Shakedown, which focuses on all major Boston sports.

The host for Raven Sports Recap graduated at the end of last semester, so I will be holding auditions for a new host on Monday, February 6, at 6:30. If you are interested in auditioning, I will be doing screen tests so please be prepared to speak on camera. The host of Raven Sports Recap is responsible for writing the script and getting interviews for the show. If you are auditioning, I would like to to either bring three stories on a flashdrive or email them to fptvsports@gmail.com. These must be stories you have written yourself. If you are having difficulties with writing them, you can either write to me or watch some examples we have from last year’s RSR on our Youtube page. Guild Wars 2 has been a long anticipated game for nearly five years. Since the announcement of Guild Wars 2 in 2007, gamers of Guild Wars have been earning titles, reading blogs, and learning the new combat system; all in preparation for the release of GW2. Areananet, the creators of the game, have no released an official date, but, many sources point the release of this highly anticipated game to this very year, 2012.

After the release of the final profession, the mesmer, Areananet posted news about the progress of GW2. The first reported news stated that GW2 was now exiting the alpha stage and began to move into the beta stage. Areananet also stated that the beta stage would take far less time to complete, and that the game will be released shortly after the beta. No real word of date yet, but it gave fans a sense of hope that the game will be released within the year.

On January 23^rd, 2012, Areananet made an announcement that made the Chinese New Year even more exciting. Areananet announced that they will be doing private beta testing in the month of January, February and March. Once March hits, there will be a transition from private beta to public beta. Public beta will take place in March and April. Public beta will be weekend events that Guild Wars players can participate in. These beta events will allow players to access a set area, not the whole game. This means that players will be fed parts of the game, on weekends. As mentioned early, this beta will last until April, meaning Guild Wars 2 may be released either in the Summer, Fall or Winter of 2012. Raising high hopes for fans everywhere.
