Anyone is welcomed to audition. Those who want to try out must bring a list of questions that you would use in an episode, some new ideas you have for the show, and an exciting presence.

For years, Roommates has thrived off the energy of it’s host. Teams that have been on the show feel more comfortable with a confident host. The person who is selected will have all of these qualities. Among the people watching the auditions will be former host James Connelly and Associate Producer Bobby Driscoll.

“I am honestly hoping a girl comes out and blows my mind, but whoever has the best audition will get the role,” said Connelly.

The show has not had a female host since a failed pilot in 2009, the episode before Connelly began is dominating run. Connelly also stressed that this competition is open to everyone and there will be no advantages for anyone.

Anyone who is interested in auditioning but cannot attend the auditions should email James Connelly or Robert Driscoll to find another convenient time.

We need 5-8 freshmen/sophomores to reenact a tour with one of the tour guides on campus. You will be on camera for 10seconds and have no lines (improve is acceptable if you’d like). We do however still need a main character to ask the library attendant 2 questions before running down the isles of the bookstore with a shopping cart and grabbing everything off the shelves (this is a dream sequence). If you are interested in helping us out, please contact Alex Terrill via FaceBook or email terrilla@live.franklinpierce.edu. Its fun, exciting and when else can you fun down the halls of the library like you’ve won a shopping spree? Thanks!

I’m Jen Connors and I am the Executive Producer of Sports for FPTV. Currently we have four sports shows on the air: Ground Pound, our football show, which is obviously coming to a close for the season as the Superbowl is on Sunday; Raven Sports Recap, focusing on the Ravens and all of our sports teams; Pierce Portal, which focuses on intramural sports on campus; and Beantown Shakedown, which focuses on all major Boston sports.

The host for Raven Sports Recap graduated at the end of last semester, so I will be holding auditions for a new host on Monday, February 6, at 6:30. If you are interested in auditioning, I will be doing screen tests so please be prepared to speak on camera. The host of Raven Sports Recap is responsible for writing the script and getting interviews for the show. If you are auditioning, I would like to to either bring three stories on a flashdrive or email them to fptvsports@gmail.com. These must be stories you have written yourself. If you are having difficulties with writing them, you can either write to me or watch some examples we have from last year’s RSR on our Youtube page. If you have any questions about auditions or want to get involved, feel free to email me at connorsje@live.franklinpierce.edu.

Guild Wars 2 has been a long anticipated game for nearly five years. Since the announcement of Guild Wars 2 in 2007, gamers of Guild Wars have been earning titles, reading blogs, and learning the new combat system; all in preparation for the release of GW2. Areananet, the creators of the game, have no released an official date, but, many sources point the release of this highly anticipated game to this very year, 2012.

After the release of the final profession, the mesmer, Areananet posted news about the progress of GW2. The first reported news stated that GW2 was now exiting the alpha stage and began to move into the beta stage. Areananet also stated that the beta stage would take far less time to complete, and that the game will be released shortly after the beta. No real word of date yet, but it gave fans a sense of hope that the game will be released within the year.

On January 23rd, 2012, Areananet made an announcement that made the Chinese New Year even more exciting. Areananet announced that they will be doing private beta testing in the month of January, February and March. Once March hits, there will be a transition from private beta to public beta. Public beta will take place in March and April. Public beta will be weekend events that Guild Wars players can participate in. These beta events will allow players to access a set area, not the whole game. This means that players will be fed parts of the game, on weekends. As mentioned early, this beta will last until April, meaning Guild Wars 2 may be released either in the Summer, Fall or Winter of 2012. Raising high hopes for fans everywhere.

Evanescence has always been one of my favorite bands. Since the release of Origin in the early 2000s, Evanescence had me sold as a life time fan until now. In October 2011, Evanescence released their new album, Evanescence, and to me, it was a disappointment. In this review, I’ll explain my own thoughts and opinions about Evanescence and their career up to now.

Origin was Evanescence first album I came across. The band has been around since the 90s, but rose in popularity significantly in the early 2000s. Origin was a great album. It really got me interested into the band for numerous of reasons. The album itself contained many songs that were re-done and placed into Fallen. Unlike Fallen, all of the songs Evanescence composed in Origin were eerie with long guitar strums. Each song features Amy Lee singing in what sounds like a cathedral. The whole album, in fact, sounds like it was composed in cathedral. It gave a dark eerie sense to the album. Most people considered this album to be like gothic rock, due to how the album sounds. Origin is the only dark album Evanescence produced.

Fallen was Evanescence’s debut album when they hit the mainstream. Many people who know Evanescence know them because of “Bring me to Life” and “My Immortal.” Both these songs originated in Origin, but were re-mastered and brought onto the radio. Evanescence became more Rock in this group, but they kept to the cathedral side by having an orchestra in the background. Many songs in Fallen feature many string instruments, such as the violin, viola and the cello. Fallen was one of my favorite albums because of this. Hard rock with an orchestra of string instruments in the background added such depth and build up in their songs. For example, My Immortal starts of slow with just a piano and a quiet orchestra. As the songs goes towards the climax, the song picks up tempo until it crashes together in one giant verse, and then ends quietly. Most of the other songs, like in Fallen feature a dramatic build up with a crash at the end. It really made sold the album.

After a few years, in 2007, Evanescence released their new album, The Open Door. This is my favorite album. The Open Door, in my opinion, is a combination of Fallen and Origin. This blew my mind. The album had both eerie and dark vocals and instrument play with all the build up and orchestra still present. This formed a very damn good album. My favorite song on the album, Lacrymosa, features everything between Fallen and Origin. The song opens up with an eerie violin and piano play. As the songs plays through, it slowly builds with both instruments and vocals. Once the song reaches its climax the song crashes with everything, such as heavy guitars, pianos, bass, violins and a choir. It all came together so well. Other songs in the album feature this style, such as, Your Star, Lithium and Weight of the World. This album also was the album they primarily played at their concert I went to go see in 2007. Evanescence played both The Open Door and Fallen and the concert was incredible, due to all the build ups and crashes.

Finally, after four more years, Evanescence released a new album, Evanescence. When I heard the album debuted, I was so excited that I went home the weekend to get it. I was utterly disappointed. The album sounded like Averill Levine except slightly darker. I know the band went through a huge musician swap and many of the original members left and I believe that is what killed the album. There is little orchestra, practically no good build ups and it features Amy Lee singing more like a pop star versus a rock singer. I listened to the whole album, but it wasn’t the same band. No surprise. With all the original members leaving, it really shifted the album and instrument play completely. I’ll admit that the violins are good in the album, and “What you Want” is a good song, but many of the other songs disappointed me by the lyrics. I know Amy Lee complained a lot in her other albums, but it was never direct. It was always poetic, but in this new album, it just laid out right there. She tells you that she is miserable and sad, but in My Immortal or Bring me to Life, the lyrics tell you that something is wrong, but it is never direct. It allows room for imagination, rather than just complaining…like I’m doing.

All in all, Evanescence has been one of my favorite bands of all time, until now. The album, Evanescence disappointed me. At least we’ll always have Vanessa Carlton.

PS. Evanescence means to vanish like vapor.

Check out these videos from this year’s New York Comic Con!

Comic Con invited FPTV back to cover their event after successful coverage from last year’s convention. Overdeput was in charge of the arrangements and made sure everyone had press passes. Now that the production team has left, they are excited to leave and wonder if this year’s convention will be similar to last year’s.

Comic Con is a yearly convention in which thousands of people meet to see newly released movies, video games, and TV shows in a convention setting. Check out FPTV’s YouTube page for new videos from the event.

by Alexis Auffray

Upon graduation I saved up some money waitressing in New York and packed up to back pack through Europe for the month of July 2010. My adventures took me to London, Amsterdam, Interlaken Switzerland, Venice Italy, Mykonos Greece, Paris France, and Madrid Spain.

I was able to see seven new countries in a matter of months, gain countless experiences and meet several friends that I am still in touch with! There was all this magic in learning about these new cultures and ways of life. Upon returning back to the states I realized I was not yet ready to enter a typical entry level position. I wanted to try something different, exciting, expand my horizons. I listed myself on an au pair site during the month of August and soon after a family in Sweden showed interested. Next thing I know I’m boarding a plane first week in September to Stockholm, Switzerland!

My family turns out to be perfect, two amazing parents and two boys ages 7 and 10. I immediately become a part of the family and start enjoying every aspect and Sweden. The most exciting surprise was to find a high level basketball team near by that needed a point guard. I was soon the newest member of Jarfalla Basket, a Division One team in a town nearby. We finished the season 20-2 and just missed the Swedish “Top League” in qualifications. With au pairing, basketball, partying, friends and traveling my year has been jam packed! This year I have traveled to Egypt, Brussels, Austria, London, New York, and Tallinn. Upcoming trips include Mykonos and Bali!

My time here is almost finished, and I will be enjoying another summer abroad where the sun is always up! I am currently searching/deciding what my next move it whether it be to stay in Sweden and get a real job and continue my basketball career, or head somewhere else!

My FPTV experience has really helped me for the real world. Just the responsibility and creativity showed me how to keep my mind open. The values and hard work we learned at FP are priceless qualities that we need in the professional world. I am currently applying for jobs around the world and my resume is jam packed with the experiences I received at Franklin Pierce.

I would advise graduates to give themselves a chance to see the world first before they settle down in a job!

If you are an alum of FPTV and would like to update us on your life, please write an update on the FPTV facebook. Stay tuned for more FPTV alumni updates!
